What a dreary lookin’ Sunday we have here, and it’s so cold. Brr! The weather people predicted snow on the ground by morning and I see nothing! Woo Hoo!
I had a wonderful time yesterday at Knitter’s Fantasy! Knitter’s Fantasy is a combo of classes, shopping, fashion show, contests, demonstrations and lunch all wrapped up in one day. As many of you know already, I signed myself up for a Felted Bag Workshop for the afternoon so that I could shop and have a look around before lunch and the fashion show.
The yarn market was ok. A couple of my local LYSs were there as well as others from the state and beyond. Last year’s event I thought had a few more booths, but none the less I did some damage. The first thing I saw that I liked and bought was the Knitters University “Fighting Balls” t-shirt by Two Chicks Designs. They have a couple other knitting t-shirts on their website too. Next purchases came from a yarn shop called Yarn Smiths. All their fibers were gorgeous, colorful, and sooo soft. You could buy a hank or get 2 hanks for a discounted price at the show. Without further ado at your lower right hand corner of the “haul pic” (pic #3) is Yarn Smith’s “Prairie”: Superfine, 60% lambswool, 20% baby alpaca, 20% Cashmere, 400 yds each. Next up, on the lower left hand corner of the “haul pic”, Herwick Fine by Autumn House Farm “Where yarn is born!” The yarn booth itself was just gorgeous, I just had to get something! So soft, like butta, and I love love love the colorway with the rich tones of browns, burgandy, teal, green, and amber. This is gonna make a great pair of socks! I also managed to snag a bookmark from them that reads: Great Yarns Knit Friends Together. How true is that! The other yarn at the top left in the picture is Skacel Preludio… nice and fuzzy. I got one bag of 2 balls as a freebie when I entered the show, and another bag of the same yarn as a door prize that I won. It’s soo soft too. In the Chinese raffle they had some pretty nice giveaways, but once again I was a loser.
Before lunch and the fashion show started, I hopped over into the demo room where there were a couple of ladies doing all-day demos of machine knitting. This was the first time I seen them in action. I found that to be very fascinating. The machine is big, the hooks remind me of those latch hooks you use for latch hooked rugs, and the yarn/string holders reminded me of fly fishing. Anyhow, the woman in the picture above was in the process of making me a scrunchie (in the “haul pic” it’s the light teal circle at the bottom of the pic). Super Cool.
The fashion show was another big hit this year. The lady featured in the first picture above is just an awesome knitter. She came to KF last year with a similar sweater dress (without cabling) and just wow’d the crowd. This year she came with 3 different items which included a sweater jacket, a sweater & skirt combo, and this long cabled sweater dress. Unfortnately, my flash on the camera would not cooperate with me properly so I don’t think this is a very good pic I took. None the less, the sweater dress was just amazing. Her items she showed in the fashion show came from Vogue Knitting and one other magazine … I can’t remember now. Then as the fashion show progressed……… a man walked up on stage with a very handsome looking sweater pull over. (Dang, my picture did not come out well or else I would post here). The crowd started to hoot and hollar to cheer him on the catwalk. Then announcer started to talk about the pullover then someone from the crowd hollared out “Did you make that?”….. He very shyly said “Yeah!” and the crowd went wild….roared with more hootin’ and hollarin’ and claps galore. He did a fine knit job!
After the fashion show and giveaways, it was time for the Felted Bag class. We were given a folder with handouts and then the teacher got us started on a Noro Ruffled Felt Bag which kind of looks like an upside down hat. I started it in class, but I think I’m gonna frog it and start again. My circ needle length was too long for this bag (the class description never mention what length to bring) and it made it virtually impossible to knit in the round. So after I had hit my snag, I decided to leave the class a 1/2 hr early so I could get back on the road before the rainy weather hit. Btw, here is my teacher’s blog if you would like to see more of her felted creations.
After making it home and getting dinner on, I suddenly FELT inspired to start the BOOGA BOOGA bag. I have the botton done and about 8 rows of the bag done. So there’s not much to show. When I get more of the SS done up the bag, I’ll post a pic. I’m liking the colorway I chose in Noro Kureyon.
Hang in there we’re almost the finish line.
While I was sittin’ and knittin’, I finally got to watch “I am Legend” with Will Smith. Pretty freaky movie, but it was just ok. Will is a good actor so I’m sure he will overcome this one.
That’s All Folks! Thanks for stickin’ it out. Don’t think I’ll be venturing out today in the gloomy weather so, best bet is to go clean something.
Make it a good one!
