My Earlier Works of Art
April 20, 2008 by hookedonstring

Soggy Sunday. We had a brief moment of bliss yesterday when the sun was shining, but I will say I am happy that Spring has sprung and the promise of more sunny days to come.
The Spring Flinging has begun! Yesterday, I started with the cubby hole in this house where my parents stored all their holiday decorations, and as years have gone past I added to it, making it all overflow and sometimes difficult to get the door to either open or close. So, I dragged everything out and sorted it by Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Fall, etc., boxed it all up, and marked each box accordingly. I also flinged some other stuff that was no longer needed, but kept alot of the old stuff for the memories. I inherited my parents house, so you can imagine how much stuff there was, and yet still to go through.
My brother worked on the garage yesterday. Taking out what he did not need or want. He says he has “plans” for new shelves, new this new that. Anyways, in the midst of his cleaning he ran across a scrapbook tucked away in the rafters. Apparently, it was mine…. from kindergarten!! My Dad had saved it. It’s a little beat up and discolored around the edges, but inside………. was all my earlier works of art! Most of the pictures inside, had mostly “R’s” written all over the place. Either it was my fascination about the letter “R”, or I was trying to write my name…. perhaps a little of both. Anyhow, above are just a couple samplings from the scrapbook. The 3rd pic down is suppose to be a picture of me in my favorite purple dress. I believe the drawing was based on my favorite dress I wore at the time… along with purple tights, naturally. However, the purple tights are not shown in this picture, but my carrot nose is… I loved (still love) carrots. I’ll have to find a way to preserve the scrapbook, but for the time being, I’m taking a few digital pics of it so I can post the pics into my family’s photo scrapbook that I’m currently making… that is a never ending process… it seems.
Well, I must be off and flinging again. I still have some other stuff yet to put away. Enjoy your day!

beautiful drawings! Don’t you just love looking back on those things
Oh how cute! I love your little people, they look like happy dancing people! I know my parents have everything from “day 1″ also!
Well, I’m flinging around in my studio. I am going to get rid of stuff that I haven’t/won’t use! Then I’m going to paint the door to that room!
I love your art work. Interestingly my mother framed a finger paint I did in third grade, and now one of my daughters has it hung in her house.
Have a great, wonderful, warm Ohio week. We just talked to my sister-in-law in Findlay who said all was well up there.
Those are so sweet! And how lovely of your dad to have kept them. My mom kept a couple of things of ours from when we were in school but when are basement flooded when we were teenagers they kind of all got ruined!
Andi seeing your artwork made me think of something funny, you have to check out the following website:

Awwww Andi! These pictures are a treasure! Thank you for sharing them! Soooo sweet….
Thank you all.
I was really surprised to see how much I remember making some of them. I am totally sure why I drew the clown, because when I was little they were a little creepy to me.
My favorite is the portrait of me. If you have little ones about kindergarten age, you really should have them draw a picture of themselves, then save it, and have them look at it 40+ years later.
