Times are Bad

Like most people I set my trash out on the curb the night before the morning of pick up. When the weather is crappy, like it was yesterday, I do set the trash out by mid afternoon. Trash pickers tend to scour the neighborhoods for reminents that people put out which is ok by me. Once my aunt and uncle found a perfectly nice recliner that someone put on the curb, they picked it up and took it home. In the process of cleaning the chair, they found an envelope and inside was a couple of Franklins. Finders, Keepers. I have a friend who is a garbage man and he says it is unbelieveable what people will put out on the curb for trash pickup….. brand new sweepers still in the box, perfectly fine rocking chairs, once he even found a huge chandelier.
But you can always tell when things are going from worse to worser in the economy when thieves rummage your recycleables and STEAL your bag of pop cans, which is what happened to me. I woke up this morning, opened the front door to get the newspaper, and 1 of 2 bags (the 2nd being a bag of plastics) was GONE. Rude. I thought well if times are that bad that you have to steal my cans that I took the time to collect and rinse out for curb pick up then why don’t you do me the courtesy and leave me the green recycle bag that the cans were in so I can fill it back up for YOU. Not to mention that if you needed the cans that damn bad, to atleast knock on my door and ask if you can take them in the first place. If they had done that, I would of probably said ok anyways, just leave me the green bag.
Naturally, they are just cans. It’s nothing to totally get upset about. Times are bad. I know. But still, leave the green bag for goodness sake.
So, just a warning to my fellow readers, beware of the recycle thieves. Meanwhile, I’m at the planning board to discover a way to put the kabosh on their stealing ways.

I’ve had that happen to me before - it was weird because I saw the guy near our recycling and he didn’t even bother to leave when I came by. It’s sad because you know they really need it if they’ll do that, but on the other hand if there aren’t any “worthy” recyclables to pick up the company doesn’t want to pick up the other stuff, so it’s worse for the environment. At least we didn’t get a mess, though.
That’s terrible, but it’s like that all over. They’re just lucky you didn’t have a huge dog laying out there, that would have taught them a lesson, but might have made the dog sick.
