Cane Lovin’

It is so freakin’ cold here bloggers. Earlier this afternoon I had driven to the post office to drop off some mail, and it was clear but cold. Then on the way home itty bitty snowflakes began to fall, and I thought to myself “oh boy, here it comes. That big winter storm is on it’s way.” So since my brother ate 99.9% of the Sunken Kisses cookies (peanut butter cookies with the chocolate kiss on top) previously show-n-telled below couple posts back, I decided to be nice and make another batch, but not of that recipe. If you look at the picture below, the cookies cracked too much when I put the kiss on top, and they were too crumbly (but freakzoid ate them anyways…) . The recipe came from the back of the Hershey Kiss bag. If I were you, don’t use that recipe. It bites big time. Sorry Hershey, I still love you though. So, after a brief search I found the book that contained the best recipe for these cookies (in my opinion) from All Butter Fresh Cream Sugar Packed No Holds Barred Baking Book by Judy Rosenberg (view book here). This woman is a master baker. I don’t recall how I had found out about her books years ago, but I have 2 of her baking books, and for me and my taste in cookies (which means the recipe best be good, no flops, and darn right easy with simple directions) she is hands down one of the very best! She has a website, so check her out sometime…. here. After those were done, I had another package of the Pillsbury sugar cookie dough left to do something with and what I thought was going to be a cool thing…. wound up to be kinda a pain in the Hein-a-kin, but I GOT-R-DONE! I made sugar cookie candy canes. I took half of the already prepared dough and tinted it red. That in of itself was a chore, but I manged to get it colored red after about what seemed like 100 drops of red food coloring (don’t know exactly how many because I lost count after 6…chuckle chuckle). Next pain part, was rolling the dough out, trying to get each “color” the same size, and then more pain came when I started to twist the dough to get the swirly effect. Some hooks went to the left, while other hooks went to the right. So if there is a right way the hook should face, well TOO BAD…. my poor aching back says. And not to mention I have canes of all sizes too. Big, short, skinny, fat. LOL. ;) No matter which way, it’s all yummy.
As the baking went on this afternoon, more snow started to fall. Right now as of this evening, I think we have about 3 inches. The weather forecasters said anywhere from 2-6″ inches. Joy! Joy!
Well those 2 cookies on that plate are now gone, and the Saturday Night Live specials are over. So I’m packin’ up my keyboard and bidding A-dew to you and you and you.
Night!
P.s. Did anyone else notice in my post about the “handcuffs” that one of my commentors was what appears to be a solicitation for a lawyer?? ROFL.

The candy cane cookies sure look delicious. I think I miss having somebody to bake cookies for. The girls are all grown and do their own baking. Didn’t you just love the smell of the warm cookies wafting through the house.
My friend makes those candy cane cookies every year. She tried to teach me how to make them but my rolling and twisting skills are seriously lacking! Your’s look great!
