Book Sale
May 5, 2007 by hookedonstring

Earlier today I went to our local library for their bi-annual book sale. I was merely in the mood to “just browse” but came upon a few that I thought “must have”. The first stack contains a couple by Iris Johansen, one of my fav mystery authors. I also managed to snag a very nicely illustrated copy of “Emma” by Jane Austen & An Old Fashioned Girl” by Louisa M. Allcott - both authors I read as a youngin’. Anyhow, I was searching hi and low for any neat looking knitting & crochet books and became disheartened when there were none. So I paid for the purchases and moved onto the 2nd room. Rows and Rows of books.. mysteries, biographies, childrens, spiritual… then I hit the craft and hobby aisle. Woo Hoo.. so I thought. I came to the knitting section and it was bare. Zipo! Dang I thought, but then came to the conclusion that whoever wiped the knitting section out surely did not take the time to go through everything to make sure they got the last book. Low and behold - two books remained. “Knitting Made Easy” by Barbara Aytes (no clue on who she might be - book was published in 1970) and “Knit Your Own Norwegian Sweaters” by the Dale Yarn Company, CR 1974. (A mere tiny yo-de-lay-he-who called out to me…. ok so that would be “swiss”, but who cares - these people pictured in this book look like they belong on a very snowy mountain.) I could of stayed for the $3.00 grocery sack bag-0-books sale, but decided I got what I wanted and came back home.
Lugging the books out of the car and catching a glimpse at my empty flower beds, I decided to put the books aside for now and tackle primping and priming the dirt. Nasty bugs everywhere. Worms galore too. GRODEE yuck yuck !! I managed to plant my drawf daylilies and one pink hydrangea bush for now. I have rose bushes to plant also, but I’m waiting for a family friend landscaper to come over and chat about putting a small but prominent flower garden in my backyard. So those will have to wait for now.
It’s another Netflix night tonight with Dream Girls and then tommorrow afternoon I just might go see a movie. I’m in the middle of a debate on which one: Spidey Man or Next. Decisions.

cool on the book sale!
I love going to yard sales and things like htat to look through the old books people have…
Always have to come away with one or two….
And EEEWWW on the planting with bugs, Id never be a good gardner. I was helping my mom out one summer planting just filling up little potters with soil and putting some flowers in them so she could have them on the deck, well sat down it the corner of one was this really nasty horrible looking bug I flung that planter so far up in the air and screamed took off running and was in the house before it hit the ground! HAHA Everyone outside was laughing at me with my mom saying “it was a bug huh?” wasnt funny! that thing could have ate me! HAHA
Nice finds! I love vintage knitting patterns / books. if only for the kitch factor.
